Books for Babies is a project by The Friends of the Corona Library.   People may be surprised to learn that you should read to babies.  According to United for Libraries, babies start to learn language and sounds right away- as soon as they are born. They like to listen to their parents’, grandparents’ and siblings’ voices and they love to hear rhythm and songs.

Reading to the baby will help him/her learn more quickly. It will also increase the loving bond between you. Newborns can listen and respond to your voice and other sounds. They can tell you about their feelings by cooing, gurgling, smiling and crying.

Books for Babies bags include information and ideas about reading to a baby. There is also a card with the activities that the Corona Library provides for babies and young children. “My First Library Card” is also in the bag. A onesie or a bib is included in each bag. If you have a new baby in your life or know someone with a new baby, stop by the Friends’ BookShop at the Library and pick up a free Books for Babies bag or ask for a bag when you see a Friends’ booth at a local event. Material is available in English or Spanish.
